2 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
2 bananas
1 sheet puff pastry
Banana tart tatin is a delicious and easy dessert that combines the caramelly goodness of brown sugar, the warmth of cinnamon, and the natural sweetness of bananas, all enveloped in a buttery puff pastry. Perfect for any occasion, this dessert is sure to impress your family and friends with its beautiful presentation and irresistible taste.
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
2. Prepare the Caramel:
- In an oven-safe skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Once the butter is melted, add the 2 teaspoons of brown sugar.
- Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and starts to caramelize, forming a smooth and slightly thickened caramel sauce.
3. Add Cinnamon: Stir in the 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon into the caramel mixture to incorporate.
4. Slice Bananas: Peel and slice the 2 bananas into 1/2-inch or approximately 1 cm thick rounds.
5. Arrange Bananas: Carefully add the banana slices to the caramel in a single layer, covering the entire bottom of the skillet. Be sure to arrange them neatly as this will be the top of your tart once it's flipped.
6. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet if needed, so it fits just slightly larger than the skillet.
- Carefully lay the puff pastry over the bananas, tucking in the edges around the inside of the skillet for a snug fit.
7. Bake the Tart: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
8. Cool Slightly: Once baked, remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes (not too long, or the caramel may harden and stick).
9. Flip the Tart: Place a large plate or serving dish over the skillet. Using oven mitts, carefully but quickly invert the skillet to transfer the tart onto the plate, caramel-side up.
10. Serve: Serve your Banana Tart Tatin warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Tips:
- Use ripe but firm bananas for the best texture and sweetness.
- Make sure to thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions before using.
- Preheat your oven to ensure even cooking of the tart.
- Caramelize the butter, sugar, and cinnamon mixture until it reaches a golden brown color for a richer flavor.
- Carefully flip the tart onto a plate while it's still warm to avoid sticking.
With just a few simple ingredients and a bit of preparation, you can create a stunning banana tart tatin that balances the flavors of caramel, cinnamon, and banana perfectly. Whether served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or enjoyed on its own, this dessert is sure to become a favorite for its ease and elegance.
