Bolognese rice bake

Bolognese Rice Bake is a delicious and hearty dish that combines the rich flavors of a traditional Bolognese sauce with the comforting texture of baked rice. This recipe is perfect for a family dinner or a cozy meal with friends. It's easy to prepare and will fill your kitchen with delightful aromas.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp olive oil
27g
1 onion
160g
1 carrot
60g
1 stalk celery
130g
1 tsp fresh thyme
5g
2 garlic cloves
6g
18 oz ground beef (80/20%)
510g
1/3 cup tomato puree
72g
1 can canned tomatoes
400g
1 cup beef broth
250g
1.50 cups white rice
300g
4 eggs
200g
2 tbsp fresh parsley
10g
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
80g

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the Vegetables:
Finely chop the onion, carrot, and celery. Mince the garlic cloves.
3. Cook the Vegetables:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, celery, and thyme. Cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
4. Cook the Ground Beef:
Add the ground beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
5. Prepare the Sauce:
Stir in the tomato puree and canned tomatoes. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook gently for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
6. Cook the Rice:
While the sauce is simmering, cook the white rice according to the package instructions if it's not already cooked.
7. Combine Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice and the bolognese sauce. Stir in the beaten eggs, chopped parsley, and half of the grated parmesan cheese.
8. Bake the Dish:
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining grated parmesan cheese over the top.
9. Bake:
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and slightly crispy.
10. Serve:
Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with additional fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips:

- For a deeper flavor, let the Bolognese sauce simmer for a bit longer before adding it to the rice.

- Feel free to add more vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini to the sauce for extra nutrition.

- Make sure to cook the rice just until it's slightly underdone before baking; it will finish cooking in the oven.

- If you prefer a cheesier dish, you can add some mozzarella or cheddar cheese to the mix before baking.

- This dish can be prepped a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator; just pop it in the oven when you're ready to bake and serve.

Once baked, your Bolognese Rice Bake is ready to be served. This one-dish meal is perfect for any occasion, combining robust flavors with satisfying comfort. Enjoy it hot, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and extra Parmesan if desired. Bon appétit!
