Ingredients:
1 lemon
1 tbsp all-purpose white wheat flour
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1 cup feta cheese
1 tbsp olive oil
2 garlic cloves
1/2 cup dried oregano
1 tbsp honey
1/3 cup walnuts
Instructions:
1. Prepare Lemon Zest and Juice:
- Zest the lemon and set the zest aside.
- Cut the lemon in half and juice it. Reserve the juice for later use.
2. Prepare the Feta:
- Cut the feta cheese into thick slices or cubes, depending on your preference.
3. Bread the Feta:
- Set up a breading station with three bowls.
- In the first bowl, place the all-purpose flour.
- In the second bowl, beat the egg.
- In the third bowl, combine bread crumbs, half of the lemon zest, and a small pinch of dried oregano.
4. Coat the Feta:
- Dip each piece of feta cheese in the flour, ensuring an even coating.
- Next, dip the floured feta into the beaten egg.
- Finally, coat the feta with the seasoned bread crumb mixture. Press the crumbs onto the cheese to make sure they adhere well.
5. Cook the Feta:
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Once hot, add the breaded feta pieces.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove them from the skillet and place on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
6. Prepare the Sticky Walnuts:
- Finely chop the garlic cloves.
- In another skillet, toast the walnuts over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, until they become fragrant.
- Add the chopped garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in the reserved lemon juice and honey.
- Cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture becomes sticky and the walnuts are well-coated, about 2-3 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in the remaining lemon zest.
7. Final Assembly:
- Place the fried feta on a serving platter.
- Drizzle the sticky lemon and honey walnuts over the top.
- Sprinkle with additional dried oregano for garnish.
8. Serve:
- Serve immediately while the feta is still warm and crispy.
