Ingredients:

1 cup light sour cream
230g
1/2 cup milk (1% fat)
120g
1 onion
110g
5 potatoes
1000g
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
50g

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Vegetables:
- Peel the potatoes and slice them into thin, even rounds (about 1/8 inch thick).
- Peel the onion and slice it thinly as well.
3. Mix the Cream Sauce:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the light sour cream and 1% milk. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and thoroughly combined.
4. Assemble the Gratin:
- Lightly grease a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) with butter or non-stick spray.
- Arrange half of the potato slices evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Spread half of the sliced onions over the potatoes.
- Pour half of the sour cream and milk mixture over the layered potatoes and onions.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes and onions, creating another layer.
- Pour the remaining cream mixture over the top.
5. Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
- Bake for about 45 minutes.
6. Add Cheese & Continue Baking:
- After 45 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the gratin.
- Return the dish to the oven and bake, uncovered, for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender, and the cheese is melted and golden brown.
7. Cool & Serve:
- Remove the gratin from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with fresh herbs like chives or parsley if desired.
8. Enjoy: Serve the Potato & Onion Gratin as a delicious side dish to your favorite meal.

Tips:

- Use a mandoline to evenly slice the potatoes and onion for a uniform cook.

- Opt for starchy potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold for the best texture.

- Season each layer with salt and pepper to ensure the best flavor.

- Allow the gratin to cool for a few minutes before serving to let it set.

Potato & onion gratin is a versatile and delicious dish that can elevate any meal. With its rich flavors and creamy texture, it’s a wonderful addition to your recipe repertoire. Follow these simple steps and tips to create a savory, crowd-pleasing side dish that everyone will love.
