Syrian spaghetti with tomato sauce

Syrian spaghetti with tomato sauce is a delightful twist on the classic pasta dish, infused with the warm and aromatic spices typical of Syrian cuisine. This version combines your favorite pasta with a rich tomato sauce, made unique by the addition of cinnamon—a staple spice that adds a subtle but unmistakable depth of flavor. Perfect for a cozy dinner, this dish is sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients:

1 dash black pepper
1/10g
1 tsp cinnamon
2.60g
1 dash salt
0.40g
1 can canned tomato paste
170g
1/2 can tomato sauce
210g
16 oz pasta
450g
1/4 cup vegetable oil
54g

Instructions:

1. Cook the Pasta:
- Fill a large pot with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring it to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, add the pasta (450g) to the pot.
- Cook according to the package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente (firm to the bite).
- Drain the pasta and set aside.
2. Prepare the Sauce:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, heat 1/4 cup (54g) of vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add 1 can (170g) of tomato paste and 1/2 can (210g) of tomato sauce to the pan.
- Stir well to combine and cook for about 2-3 minutes to allow the tomato paste to caramelize slightly.
- Add 1 teaspoon (2.60g) of cinnamon, a dash of black pepper (approximately 1/10g), and a dash of salt (approximately 0.40g) to the tomato mixture.
- Stir to incorporate the spices into the sauce. Continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:
- Add the cooked and drained pasta to the saucepan with the tomato sauce.
- Toss the pasta thoroughly to ensure that it is evenly coated with the sauce.
4. Serve:
- Transfer the Syrian spaghetti with tomato sauce to serving plates or a large serving dish.
- Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or basil if desired.

Tips:

- Make sure to cook the pasta al dente, as it will continue to cook slightly when mixed with the warm sauce.

- For a richer flavor, you can sauté the tomato paste in vegetable oil for a few minutes before adding the tomato sauce and spices.

- Feel free to add some minced garlic or finely chopped onions to the sauce for additional depth of flavor.

- Garnish the finished dish with freshly chopped parsley or basil for a burst of color and freshness.

- Taste the sauce before serving and adjust the seasoning if necessary. A balance of salt and spice is key to this dish.

The blend of cinnamon and black pepper in the tomato sauce adds a distinct Syrian flair, making it a memorable meal that's both comforting and exotic.
