Ingredients:

3 lb whole chicken
1360g
1 tsp paprika
5g
1 orange
150g
1 cup chicken gravy
200g
1 onion
160g
2 cups carrots
240g
3/4 cup green beans
170g
8 oz broccoli
230g
1/2 cup orange juice
120g
2 tbsp honey
20g
2 garlic cloves
6g

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Citrus Mixture:
- Zest and juice the orange. Set the zest aside and use 1/2 cup of the orange juice for the recipe.
- Mix the orange juice, honey, and minced garlic cloves in a small bowl.
2. Veggies Prep:
- Peel and chop the onion into quarters.
- Peel and chop the carrots into 3-inch pieces.
- Trim the ends off the green beans.
- Prepare the broccoli into bite-sized florets.
3. Assemble in Slow Cooker:
- Place the chopped onion and carrots in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Lay the prepared chicken on top of the onions and carrots.
- Scatter the green beans and broccoli florets around the chicken.
- Pour the chicken gravy over the chicken and vegetables.
- Drizzle the orange juice, honey, and garlic mixture over the top.
- Sprinkle the orange zest over everything for added flavor.
4. Cook:
- Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to cook on low for 6-7 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours.
- The chicken should be cooked through with an internal temperature of at least 165°F (74°C).
5. Serve:
- Carefully remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place it on a serving platter.
- Stir the vegetables and sauce in the slow cooker to combine the flavors.
- Spoon the vegetables and some of the sauce around the chicken.
6. Optional Step:
- For a stickier glaze, you can transfer some of the sauce to a small saucepan and reduce it over medium heat until it thickens.
- This can then be brushed over the chicken before serving.

Tips:

- Be sure to properly clean and pat dry the chicken before seasoning to help the spices adhere better.

- Cut the vegetables into uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.

- Sear the chicken in a pan before placing it in the slow cooker if you prefer a slightly crispy skin.

- Use freshly squeezed orange juice for a more intense citrus flavor.

- Cooking on low heat for 6-7 hours will yield the most tender, flavorful chicken.

- For added flavor, marinate the chicken in the paprika, honey, and orange juice mixture overnight.

- Save the broth left in the slow cooker to use as a base for soups or sauces later on.

With just a little preparation in the morning, you can come home to a house filled with the mouth-watering aroma of slow-cooker sticky citrus chicken. This hearty meal serves as the perfect dinner for the whole family, providing a balanced dish with tender, flavorful chicken and a variety of vegetables.
