Air fryer pork and apple sausage rolls

Air fryer pork and apple sausage rolls are a delightful twist on a classic snack. These savory treats combine the rich taste of ground pork with the sweetness of apples, enhanced by cheddar cheese, fresh herbs, and wrapped in crispy puff pastry. Cooking them in an air fryer ensures they are perfectly browned and crispy without the need for excessive oil, making them a healthier alternative to traditional sausage rolls.

Ingredients:

18 oz ground pork
510g
1 apple
160g
1/2 cup cheddar cheese
50g
1 cup scallions
50g
2 garlic cloves
6g
2 tbsp fresh parsley
10g
1 tsp fresh thyme
5g
2 eggs
100g
3 sheets puff pastry
750g
1 tsp sesame seeds
5g

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:
1.1 In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped apple, grated cheddar cheese, finely chopped scallions, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and fresh thyme.
1.2 Crack one of the eggs into the mixture and mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined. Set aside.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
2.1 On a lightly floured surface, lay out the puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet in half to make 6 equal rectangles.
3. Assemble the Sausage Rolls:
3.1 Divide the pork mixture into 6 equal portions.
3.2 Place one portion of the pork mixture along one long edge of each puff pastry rectangle, shaping the mixture into a log.
3.3 Roll the puff pastry over the pork mixture, enclosing the filling completely and sealing the edge with a little water.
3.4 Repeat for all 6 pastry rectangles.
4. Prepare for Cooking:
4.1 Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
4.2 Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
5. Cook the Sausage Rolls:
5.1 Beat the remaining egg in a small bowl to create an egg wash.
5.2 Brush each sausage roll with the egg wash and sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds.
5.3 Place the sausage rolls in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not touching. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.
6. Air Fry:
6.1 Cook the sausage rolls in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
6.2 Check halfway through cooking and turn the sausage rolls if necessary to ensure even browning.
7. Serve:
7.1 Remove the sausage rolls from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving.
7.2 Enjoy your delicious homemade pork and apple sausage rolls with your favorite dipping sauce!

Tips:

- Make sure to finely chop the apple, scallions, garlic, and herbs to ensure they mix well with the pork.

- Preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking and a crispy texture.

- Brush the sausage rolls with beaten egg before sprinkling sesame seeds on top for added color and flavor.

- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook the sausage rolls in batches if necessary to ensure they cook evenly.

- Allow the puff pastry to thaw before use, but keep it chilled until you’re ready to roll the sausage mixture to prevent it from becoming too soft.

Cooking pork and apple sausage rolls in the air fryer is a fantastic way to achieve a crisp, golden exterior while keeping the inside juicy and flavorful. These rolls make a great appetizer, snack, or even a main course when paired with a side salad. Enjoy the harmonious blend of flavors and the ease of cooking with an air fryer.
