Spaghetti bolognaise

Spaghetti Bolognese is a classic Italian dish that's beloved around the world. This hearty recipe combines savory ground beef, fresh vegetables, and aromatic herbs in a rich tomato sauce, all served over perfectly cooked spaghetti. Whether you're preparing it for a family dinner or a special occasion, this dish is sure to impress.

Ingredients:

12 oz pasta
340g
1 tbsp olive oil
14g
1 onion
160g
1 carrot
60g
18 oz ground beef (80/20%)
510g
1 red pepper
80g
2 garlic cloves
6g
1 tbsp tomato puree
16g
1 lb tomatoes
450g
1/2 cup beef broth
120g
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
20g

Instructions:

1. Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
- Drain the pasta and set it aside.
2. Prepare the Vegetables:
- While the pasta is cooking, finely chop the onion and carrot.
- Finely chop the red pepper and mince the garlic cloves.
3. Cook the Meat and Vegetables:
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and carrot, and sauté until they are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it’s browned all over, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the chopped red pepper and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the pepper is softened and the garlic is fragrant.
4. Make the Sauce:
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of tomato puree, making sure it’s well incorporated.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and 1/2 cup of beef broth to the skillet.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
5. Combine and Serve:
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine everything well.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve topped with 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese.

Tips:

- Use high-quality ground beef: Opt for beef with an 80/20% meat-to-fat ratio for the best flavor and texture.

- Don't rush the sauce: Allow the sauce to simmer gently to develop a deep, rich flavor.

- Fresh ingredients are key: Using fresh tomatoes and garlic will elevate the taste of your Bolognese.

- Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking it until it's firm to the bite, which provides a perfect texture contrast with the sauce.

- Season as you go: Layering the seasoning at different stages of cooking will enhance the overall flavor of the dish.

- Add some red wine: A splash of red wine in the sauce can add depth and complexity to the flavor.

- Let it rest: Allowing the sauce to rest for a few minutes before serving helps the flavors to meld together.

Your Spaghetti Bolognese is now ready to be enjoyed! The robust flavors of the meat sauce meld beautifully with the tender spaghetti, creating a comforting and satisfying meal. Don't forget to sprinkle some extra parmesan on top for an added touch of indulgence. Buon appetito!
