- Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add 1 tablespoon (16g) water to the mixture and continue to mix until the dough starts to come together. If necessary, add an additional tablespoon of water, a few drops at a time, until the dough forms.
3. Roll out the dough:
- Place the dough on a floured surface and roll it out into a circle about 1/8 inch thick. It should be large enough to fit a 9-inch pie dish.
- Carefully transfer the dough to the pie dish, pressing it gently into the bottom and up the sides. Trim any excess dough from the edges.
4. Prepare the apple filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the 4 peeled, cored, and sliced apples, 1 tsp (5g) cinnamon, and 1/2 cup (120g) brown sugar. Toss the apples until they are well coated with the sugar and cinnamon.
5. Assemble the pie:
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
6. Make the topping:
- In a separate mixing bowl, combine 1/3 cup (55g) powdered sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.
7. Bake the pie:
- Place the assembled pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
8. Cool and serve:
- Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. This helps the filling to set and makes slicing easier.
