Beef Stroganoff is a classic Russian dish that has gained worldwide popularity for its rich and creamy sauce, tender beef, and savory flavors. It's a perfect meal for a cozy dinner, offering a delightful blend of textures and tastes that will satisfy your cravings.
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Beef:
- Coat the beef slices with the flour. This helps to tenderize the meat and thicken the sauce later.
2. Cook the Beef:
- In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the beef and cook until browned on all sides. Avoid overcrowding the pan; do this in batches if necessary.
- Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
3. Sauté the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and paprika, continuing to cook for another minute until fragrant.
4. Cook the Mushrooms:
- Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their moisture and become golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
5. Deglaze the Pan:
- Pour in the white wine, stirring well to deglaze the pan and lift any browned bits from the bottom. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the wine reduces by half.
6. Make the Sauce:
- Add the beef broth, tomato puree, and mustard to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Return the browned beef to the skillet, ensuring it’s well coated in the sauce.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
7. Finish with Sour Cream:
- Stir in the sour cream just before serving, making sure it is fully incorporated. Do not let it boil after adding the sour cream to prevent curdling.
8. Serve:
- Serve the Beef Stroganoff hot, traditionally over egg noodles, but it's also delicious with mashed potatoes, rice, or even crusty bread.
9. Garnish (optional):
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives for added flavor and color.
Tips:
- Choose a tender cut of beef such as sirloin or tenderloin for the best results.
- Ensure the beef is thinly sliced to cook evenly and quickly.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when browning the beef, as this can steam the meat instead of searing it.
- Use fresh mushrooms for the best flavor and texture.
- Gradually add the sour cream at the end to avoid curdling.
Your delicious Beef Stroganoff is now ready to be served. Pair it with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles to complete the meal. Enjoy this hearty and flavorful dish with family and friends.
