Ingredients:

1 onion
330g
3 garlic cloves
9g
1/4 cup green pepper
24g
1 tbsp olive oil
14g
1/4 lb ground turkey
110g
2 cans canned tomatoes
850g
2 cups kidney beans
510g
1 tbsp chili powder
8g
1 tbsp sugar
13g
2 cups chicken soup
480g
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1.55g
1 tsp pepper sauce
4.70g
1/2 tsp salt
3g
1 tsp dried basil
0.70g
1/2 tsp dried oregano
0.90g

Instructions:

1. Prep Work:
- Finely chop the onion and green pepper.
- Mince the garlic cloves.
2. Sauté Vegetables:
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and green pepper, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
3. Cook Ground Turkey:
- Add the ground turkey to the pot.
- Cook until the turkey is browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
4. Combine Ingredients:
- Stir in the canned tomatoes, kidney beans, and chicken soup.
- Add the chili powder, sugar, garlic powder, pepper sauce, salt, dried basil, and dried oregano.
- Mix well to combine all ingredients.
5. Simmer:
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Allow the chili to simmer, partially covered, for about 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
6. Adjust Seasonings:
- Taste the chili and adjust the seasonings if necessary, adding more salt, pepper sauce, or herbs to suit your preference.
7. Serve:
- Ladle the chili into bowls and serve hot. Enjoy with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions, if desired.
8. Storage:
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Turkey chili also freezes well for longer storage.

Tips:

- To enhance the flavor, sauté the onions, garlic, and green pepper in olive oil until they are soft before adding the ground turkey.

- For a richer flavor, allow the chili to simmer for at least 30 minutes. The longer it simmers, the better it tastes.

- Adjust the seasonings to your taste. Feel free to add more chili powder or pepper sauce if you prefer a spicier chili.

- If you have time, make the chili a day in advance. The flavors meld together and it often tastes even better the next day.

- Consider adding a touch of cocoa powder or a small square of dark chocolate for a deeper, more complex flavor.

Enjoy your homemade turkey chili! This dish not only warms you up but is also a healthier option packed with protein and fiber. Feel free to serve it with a side of cornbread, over rice, or with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro.
