To the garlic-lemon mixture, add the 2 cups of sour cream and 1/2 cup of heavy whipping cream. Mix until smooth and well combined.
5. Slice the Potatoes:
Peel the 5 potatoes, then thinly slice them around 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick. Using a mandoline slicer can help ensure even thickness.
6. Layer the Potatoes:
Place half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
7. Add the Cream Mixture:
Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes, spreading it out evenly.
8. Repeat Layers:
Add the remaining potato slices on top of the first layer, then pour the remaining half of the cream mixture over these potatoes.
9. Add Parmesan Cheese:
Sprinkle the 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the dish.
10. Bake:
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender, the top is golden brown, and the edges are bubbly.
