Black and white cookies

Black and white cookies are a classic treat that perfectly blend the best of vanilla and chocolate flavors. Their soft, cake-like texture and iconic half-and-half frosting make them a beloved choice for any dessert lover. This recipe will guide you through creating your own batch of these delicious cookies, with tips to ensure they come out perfectly every time.

Ingredients:

1.50 cups all-purpose white wheat flour
190g
1 tsp baking powder
5g
1 dash salt
1g
1 cup buttermilk
230g
1 tsp vanilla extract
4g
2 tsp butter
10g
1/2 cup sugar
120g
1 egg
50g
2 cup powdered sugar
320g
1 tbsp water
16g
2 tbsp dark chocolate
30g

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. Wet Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
4. Combine Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
5. Shape and Bake:
- Using a spoon or a cookie scoop, drop dollops of batter (about 2 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten the tops slightly with the back of the spoon to create round shapes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
6. White Icing:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and water until smooth. Adjust consistency with more water or powdered sugar if necessary.
7. Chocolate Icing:
- Divide the white icing in half, placing one half into a separate bowl.
- Stir the melted dark chocolate into one of the bowls of white icing until well combined.
8. Icing the Cookies:
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, turn them flat side (bottom side) up.
- Spread the white icing over one half of each cookie.
- Spread the chocolate icing over the other half of each cookie.
- Allow the icing to set for about 30 minutes before serving.

Tips:

- Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature before you start. This will help ensure your dough mixes evenly and your cookies bake uniformly.

- Use a cookie scoop to portion out the dough onto the baking sheet. This will help create evenly sized cookies.

- When applying the frosting, ensure one side hardens completely before starting on the other to avoid mixing the colors.

- For a smoother frosting, sift the powdered sugar before mixing it with water.

- Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting to prevent the icing from melting.

Enjoy your homemade black and white cookies! These cookies are ideal for any occasion, and their unique frosting and soft texture are sure to be a hit. Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh. Happy baking!
