Indulge in the delectable fusion of golden syrup and rich chocolate with these sticky buns. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, these buns are a delightful treat that will surely satisfy your sweet tooth. Follow our easy steps to create this scrumptious delight in your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

1.50 cups milk (1% fat)
360g
2 tbsp yeast
30g
1 tbsp sugar
16g
4 cups all-purpose white wheat flour
500g
1 tsp salt
5g
1 egg
50g
1/3 cup butter
70g
1/3 cup brown sugar
72g
1/2 cup dark chocolate
120g
1/2 cup maple syrup
120g

Instructions:

1. Prepare the yeast mixture:
- Warm the milk slightly until it's just lukewarm (around 37°C or 98°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, 2 tablespoons of yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir to dissolve the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Prepare the dough:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture, egg, and 1/3 cup of melted butter.
- Mix until the dough starts to come together.
3. Knead the dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough back into a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
4. Prepare the filling:
- While the dough is rising, mix the brown sugar and chopped dark chocolate in a medium bowl. Set aside.
5. Assemble the buns:
- Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release the air.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle roughly 12x18 inches in size.
- Spread the brown sugar and chocolate mixture evenly over the dough rectangle.
- Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log and pinch the seam to seal.
6. Cut the buns:
- Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal slices.
- Arrange the slices cut side up in a greased baking dish, spacing them evenly.
7. Second rise:
- Cover the bun-filled baking dish with a clean towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they become puffy and have expanded.
8. Bake the buns:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake the buns in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
9. Add the sticky syrup:
- While the buns are baking, gently warm the maple syrup in a small saucepan or microwave.
- As soon as the buns come out of the oven, generously brush or drizzle the warm maple syrup over the top, ensuring it seeps down into all the nooks and crannies.
10. Serve:
- Allow the buns to cool for a few minutes in the baking dish so they can absorb some of the syrup.
- Serve the sticky chocolate buns warm and enjoy their gooey, sweet goodness!

Tips:

- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast effectively without killing it.

- Knead the dough thoroughly to develop gluten, which gives the buns their structure and chewiness.

- Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place to ensure it doubles in size.

- Use high-quality dark chocolate for a richer flavor.

- Brush the tops of the buns with a beaten egg before baking for a beautiful golden-brown finish.

- Serve the buns warm to fully appreciate their gooey texture and rich flavor.

With their perfect blend of sweetness and texture, these sticky golden syrup and chocolate buns are sure to become a family favorite. Enjoy them warm out of the oven for the ultimate taste experience. Don't forget to share them with loved ones – if they last that long!
