1.50 cups BBQ sauce

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Onions:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet.
- Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally, until they become golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Reduce the heat if they begin to brown too quickly. Set aside once finished.
2. Prepare the Tofu:
- While the onions are caramelizing, press the block of tofu to remove excess moisture. You can do this by wrapping the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and placing a heavy object on top for 15-20 minutes.
- After pressing, slice the tofu into 1/2-inch thick slabs.
3. Marinate and Grill the Tofu:
- Preheat your grill to medium heat.
- Brush the tofu slabs with the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the tofu slabs on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
- During the last minute of grilling, brush both sides of the tofu generously with BBQ sauce, allowing the sauce to caramelize slightly. Remove from grill once done.
4. Assemble the Sandwiches:
- Slice the hamburger buns open and lightly toast them on the grill for 1-2 minutes, if desired.
- Place one or two slabs of BBQ tofu on the bottom half of each bun.
- Top with a generous portion of caramelized onions.
- Finish by placing the top half of the bun on the sandwich.
